Singida North

Singida has a long and interesting history. Located at the central of Tanzania, Singida is a center that easily brings people from Arusha, Dar-Es-Salaam, Dodoma, Iringa and Mbeya.

Lazaro represents Singida Kaskazini (Singida North Constituency) in the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania. His popularity in his constituency is proven as he has set a remarkable record by clinching the seat with over 90% of the votes cast in his favor in the general elections of 2000, 2005 and 2010.

Lazaro and the people profile 2

Lazaro’s victory in all elections is attributed to his confrontation of poverty. In the current term alone (from 2010 to 2014), Lazaro has overseen development programs in his constituency amounting to TZS 2, 363, 598, 407/= that have addressed the challenges brought about by poverty.

Lazaro is passionate about education. As a young student he was well known in his village, as he was one of only two students who passed final primary education exams and was selected to join secondary school in the year that he sat for the exams. He later obtained a scholarship from Lutheran Brothers to study in the USA. Lazaro realized that with this grace and the network he had created with friends in the USA and Tanzania he had could give an opportunity to students who like him years before needed a helping hand to advance their education and have an opportunity to a better life. Through these networks, Lazaro established STEMM – a fund that has awarded scholarships and other forms of assistance to more than 10,000 students from Singida and other regions of Tanzania who may otherwise have not obtained secondary education.
